Backend Software Engineer

Hi, I'm Maanvith Sai

I build

I design and ship real-time, distributed backend systems — chat & calling platforms, voice SDKs and event-driven microservices that scale to millions of users. Currently engineering for the Krafton client at TCS.

Backend engineer who loves systems at scale

I'm a backend software engineer with a Computer Science degree from JNTUA College of Engineering, currently building real-time platforms as a System Engineer at Tata Consultancy Services for the Krafton client.

My work lives in the demanding parts of the stack: real-time messaging and calling, an enterprise voice communication SDK, and event-driven microservices handling tens of thousands of requests per second. I care about clean domain design, low latency, and systems that stay reliable under load.

I lean heavily on Java & Spring Boot, event streaming with Kafka, in-memory speed with Redis, and ship everything on Kubernetes. Lately I've been pairing classic engineering with AI-assisted workflows and custom agents to move faster.

Where I've made an impact

System Engineer — Backend Development

Jan 2025 — Present
Tata Consultancy Services · Krafton Client · Bangalore
Real-Time Messaging & Calling Platform (Android)
  • Built a real-time chat & calling system serving 100K+ daily users on a microservices architecture.
  • Owned messaging features — replies, media handling, deletions, authentication — shipping 10+ REST APIs.
  • Implemented WebSocket-based real-time messaging, cutting latency by ~30%.
  • Designed full call lifecycle handling (initiation, cancellation, missed calls) processing thousands of events/day.
  • Integrated Kafka (50K+ events/day) and Redis caching, improving response time by ~25%.
  • Containerized with Docker and deployed on Azure Kubernetes Service for scalability and high availability.
Enterprise Voice Communication SDK
  • Architected the SDK's 6-service backend — Authentication, Orchestration, Room, Moderation, Participant and an Event Gateway — powering real-time, multi-tenant voice rooms.
  • Built multi-tenant auth (tenants → apps → API keys) secured by HMAC-SHA256 canonical-string signing with clock-skew checks and zero-downtime API-key rotation.
  • Designed the token layer: ES256 connection tokens and RS256 LiveKit join tokens minted on demand and published through a JWKS endpoint.
  • Implemented the full room lifecycle (create / join / end / delete) across voice, broadcast, lobby & spectate types, with cursor pagination and per-region LiveKit provisioning.
  • Built moderation — mute / kick / ban / warn, bulk actions and live permission updates — enforced synchronously via Orchestration → LiveKit.
  • Moved service-to-service traffic onto a gRPC mesh and streamed LiveKit webhooks as CloudEvents into Kafka, with Redis-backed roster & presence.
  • Standardized the vendor API — /api/v1, snake_case JSON, typed success/error envelopes with structured error codes, idempotency keys — verified end-to-end (19/19 API tests).
AI-Assisted Development & Productivity
  • Used GitHub Copilot and Claude Code to accelerate development, debugging and testing.
  • Built custom AI agents to automate repetitive engineering tasks and boost team productivity.
  • Applied prompt engineering to raise code-generation quality and reduce effort.

Things I've built

Selected personal & academic projects exploring microservices and event-driven design.

Client–Master Architecture

Vendor–Customer Management System

A Spring Boot app split into Client and Master modules — the Master holds core business logic & data, the Client serves a Thymeleaf UI. Inter-module REST calls via RestTemplate simulate a microservice setup; vendors manage inventory while customers place orders with transactional inventory checks.

Microservices · Event-Driven

Event-Driven Order Processing

User, Order and Inventory services communicating asynchronously over Apache Kafka. Event-based workflows process orders and manage inventory with clear event contracts — enabling loose coupling and failure isolation, orchestrated locally with Docker Compose.

DRIVE WAVE — Carpooling App

An Android carpooling app using the Google Maps API for location services and Firebase for real-time database, auth and cloud storage. Features include ride search & publishing, booking management, in-app messaging, and user profile management — a seamless carpooling experience.

Student Profile Portal

A Spring Boot portal linking college management and students across three roles: admins manage users, staff upload marks, fees & attendance, and students access their records online. Backed by MySQL with Spring Security for authentication.
